How it works

  1. Connect your provider

Connect the Stripe, Square or PayPal account you already have, or open a new one, and pick your default. It's your account, in your name.

  2. Send the link

Send an invoice or an estimate by text or email. The customer opens it on their phone or computer and pays without making an account.

  3. Ask for a deposit

On an estimate, ask for a deposit as a fixed amount or a percentage. The customer pays it on the same page where they sign.

  4. It marks itself paid

When the payment lands, the invoice updates itself and you get a "Payment received" email. The money goes from your provider to your bank on its normal schedule.

  5. Record the rest by hand

Cash, checks, Zelle and bank transfers can be recorded by hand, so every customer's balance matches what actually came in.

Your provider's fee. Nothing on top

BestMate adds no fee of its own to any payment. The customer pays through your own Stripe, Square or PayPal account, that provider takes its usual processing fee, and the rest is paid out to your bank on its normal schedule. BestMate never holds the money, so there's no BestMate payout to wait on and no markup buried in the rate.

Deposits before you buy materials

Ask for a deposit on the estimate, as a fixed amount or a percentage, and the customer pays it on the page where they sign. The materials are paid for before you order them, and a customer who has put money down is one who's serious about the job. When you invoice, they're charged the balance minus what they've already paid.

Keep the provider you already use

Already take payments through Square or PayPal? Connect that account and your payouts keep going exactly where they go today. Connect more than one and pick which is your default. Nothing changes about where the money lands, only how the customer gets to the pay button.

Cash, checks and Zelle still count

Not every customer pays online. Record cash, a check, Zelle or a bank transfer by hand and it sits next to the online payments on the same invoice. The balance due is always what's actually left, so your numbers match the bank.

Online Payments and Deposits questions

Does BestMate take a cut of my payments?

No. BestMate adds no fee of its own. Your provider, whether that's Stripe, Square or PayPal, charges its normal processing fee, and payouts go straight from the provider to you on its usual schedule. BestMate never holds the money.

What does it cost to take card payments?

Whatever your provider charges you directly, with nothing added by BestMate. Rates differ between Stripe, Square and PayPal and between accounts, so check your provider's own pricing. If you already have an account with one of them, your rate stays the same.

How fast do I get the money?

As fast as your provider pays out. The payment goes into your own Stripe, Square or PayPal account and is paid to your bank on that provider's normal schedule. BestMate isn't in between, so there's no extra hold on our side.

Which payment methods can customers use?

Card, ACH and PayPal, which is part of PayPal checkout. Card checkout may also offer Apple Pay or Google Pay depending on the customer's device, but that isn't guaranteed. None of these need a customer account.

Can customers pay by bank transfer?

Yes. Customers can pay by card, ACH or PayPal from the invoice link. If they pay by Zelle, cash or check instead, record it by hand in BestMate and the balance updates to match.
